Interview with the Headmistress

EB: Good Morning Mistress

HM: Good Morning and how are you.

EB: We are good Mistress.

HM: Well how can l help?

EB: Mistress we wanted to have a short interview with you.

HM: ok you are welcome.

EB: Who is Madam Ayesha Boakye Nyantakyiwaa

HM: The name Ayesha Boakye Nyantakyiewaa was born on

september 1966 at Mampong

in the Ashanti Region of Ghana to Mr and Mrs Boakye who are teachers.

I attended my basic school at Amankwatiah JHS and part of my education at the

Muslims Girls High School which is in Nigeria.

After my O’Level education l furthered my education at the

Kumasi Advanced Teacher Training College.

Had my national service at wiraso in 1993.

I completed a Diploma course and later furthered my education at the

University College of Education were l read Business.

In the year 2000 l had the opportunity to read a sandwich program and became the Assistant Headmistress in 2002.

With Allah on my side and prayers l am now the Headmistress of T.I AHNADIYYA GIRLS’ SHS since 2009 to date.

EB: Madam please are you married?

HM: Yes am married with a son who has also completed the university and is an old student here when it was a mixed school.

EB: Mistress please how do you combine family matters with the administration of the school?

HM: Fortunately for me my Husband lives outside the country and my son also lives with my sisters in Accra so the burden is not that big for me.

EB: please what were some of the challenges you face when changing the school from a mixed school to a girls school?

HM: Changing to a Girls school was a tough decision to make, although l had my challenges but l believed and had an interest in Girl Child Education.l encountered so many problems with stake holders, parents themselves and more especially parents because one wants to bring her boy to the school but with Allah and prayers l was able to do it and we are all proud of the school now.

EB: Mistress how did you come by the name AMGISS

HM: The Abbreviation AMGISS is Ahmadiyya Girls SHS and the students like it very much.

EB: Are you facing any challenges as the Headmistress of the school.

HM: The school is 40 years and still very young in terms of facilities. we have been facing so many challenges but with Allah and prayers l have been trying all efforts within my capacity to put things in the right path for us to get a better and conducive environment for teaching and learning.

EB: Please Mistress for all these years what are some of your achievements as the Headmistress

HM: In terms of Academics the students are doing their best and l tell you l believe l have the best of teaching staff who really understand the educational system and modern techniques of teaching.

We have come up with responsible personalities who are proud old students of this school. Some are Lecturers, Lawyers, Doctors, Nurses, teachers and so on. We have also won so many awards in terms of Academics and Sports as well. In general l will say we are doing absolutely well.

EB: Mistress Do u even have a leisure time?

HM: Not that much because l spends most of my time in managing the affairs of students and my staff with the aid of promoting good and responsible attitude towards teaching and learning.

EB: What advice do u have for students most especially T I AHMADIYYA GIRLS SHS

HM: W hat l will tell them is they should continue to learn hard and shine as the school anthem says. This is their time to rise and shine. They should also know that failure cannot dismantle the flag of success. They should marry to their books and give birth to success.

EB: Finally Mistress why do everybody call you "people’s mother".

HM: With Allah on my side and prayers l respect all icnluding  my sons and daughters so no matter who you are, you are always welcome to my life and is that selfless attitude about me that they call me peoples mother and l will continue to give my support and advice to all.

EB: We thank you soo much for your time and it was a pleasure and a great honour.
